SALVAGED ANTIQUE WALL PANEL FIREPLACE PEDIMENT NORTH WIND LION FACE ANGEL CORBEL

Description

Amazingly beautiful and IMPRESSIVE!  Salvaged from an 1880s, MASSIVE, French knock-down wardrobe.  Would look fabulous on a large wall or over a fireplace!  This beautiful panel once served as the front of the cabinet and originally had a door on each side of the center piece (the wooden pegs are still in place).  This is a 3 piece panel as there are 2 large pediments which are removable.  The first pediment is VERY SUBSTANTIAL/THICK and heavy.   It features an artistically carved "fish scale" pattern.  The second pediment is a large lion, North Wind or Green Man face.  The flat panels along the base are incised.  The large, center panel is very ornate with raised, flower basket and vine carvings in French Victorian style.  This center panel has a large, Neoclassical angel or goddess caryatid/corbel on each side.  The figures have curved mid sections in corbel fashion with large carved fruit on their bases.  This is a salvaged piece and therefore, does have a slightly aged character with minor chips/knicks.  The center panel does have a long, surface crack as pictured.  Nothing distracting or severe.  64"T, 67"W and 4.5"T.  HEAVY!
